At some point after After Laughter, a fan created a compilation of many of Paramore's demos, acoustics, and rare bonus tracks, titled The B Sides. I've been meaning to listen to it, so I thought I'd take my notes on it here. I'll try to do 2 songs a day again, like I did with From Under the Cork Tree. I'll try to talk about where the song originally came from, too. There are also some slight differences in the tracklist of this album depending on the source, so I'm using the version on the Paramore Wiki as of May 3rd 2026.
Disc 1
1. Decoy
I was listening to The Final Riot and that was where I first heard this song, which ultimately was the inspiration to listen to all of the B Sides. I've heard bad things about the demo version but it's honestly really good, I don't know how it didn't make it onto any albums.
BACKGROUND: "Decoy" was written for Riot! but never made it onto the album; instead, the demo version was released as a bonus track on the Hot Topic release, and a live version was released on the Final Riot live album.2. Another Day
BACKGROUND: Apparently this isn't a cover, but it was written in 2008 by someone outside of Paramore for them to play, and is the only Paramore song like that.
3. O Star
The lyrics of this song are so good, I love that whole idea of not knowing what to wish for once you get the chance, and meanwhile you don't even really need to make a wish. Like having everything but still wanting more.
BACKGROUND: This song originally appeared on the Summer Tic EP, released in 2006. It was then added to the 20th anniversary edition of All We Know is Falling last year.4. Stop This Song (Love Sick Melody)
THE OVERLAPPING VOCALS EFJOIEFJOIEFJOIAFJ might be my favorite non-album Paramore song.
BACKGROUND: This is on the deluxe edition of Riot! and originally appeared on the Misery Business single.5. Just Like Me
At first I thought this was like, wow cool new sound but then the chorus came and I was like yup this is Paramore. (insert the This Is Paramore meme) Honestly this goes so hard
BACKGROUND: It's from 2008, that's all I know.6. Decode (Acoustic)
I definitely prefer the original version, but I love the piano in this so much!!
BACKGROUND: The original version of Decode was written for Twilight in 2008. (lets not go down the MCR rabbit hole with Twilight)7. My Hero (Foo Fighters Cover)
I'm lowkey biased toward the original version, since my class played that in music elective recently (although I definitely prefer Hayley's vocals). I wasn't sure if it was the acoustic or electronic version that's on this collection, but they're almost the same thing.
BACKGROUND: This was on the Misery Business single, and was created for a separate compilation. Hayley also more recently joined Foo Fighters in a performance of this song.8. Stuck on You (Failure Cover)
BACKGROUND: Originally appearing on the Summer Tic EP, this was also added to the 2025 deluxe edition of All We Know is Falling. (It's also where the name "Summer Tic" comes from.) Hayley's been doing a lot of collaboration with Failure this year, which feels like such a full circle moment, given how big of an inspiration they are for Paramore.
9. Hello Hello
I love the chords in this song!! idk thats it
BACKGROUND: This was released in 2008 according to the Paramore Wiki, though Reddit sources claim it's from as early as 2004, making it one of Hayley's first recorded vocals along with "Jumping Inside" (which was later interpolated into her solo song "Ice in my OJ"). It was written by Hayley Williams and her producers but performed by Paramore (much like most of the songs here; Hayley was signed separately from the rest of the band I believe and her producers wanted to make her a pop star but she wanted to keep playing with a certain band she'd joined with classmates. sorry ill stop with the paralore hehe).10. When it Rains (Demo)
oh wow that is CRUNCHY.
BACKGROUND: "When it Rains" is a song on Riot!. This isn't one of them, but I just learned that most of these demos and unreleased songs were recorded in 2004 (despite having a 2008 release date on the Paramore Wiki) as a sort of portfolio for her producers. That's pretty simplified; I'll just link the Reddit post I learned this from.11. Emergency (Crab Mix)
"EMERGENCY" IS MY FAVORITE SONG FROM AWKIF!!!!!!!!! I can totally see why they didnt include the screaming on the album but I still love this version! (unfortunately the screams are josh. ig i can dislike him as a person but still respect/enjoy his musical contributions to the band)
BACKGROUND: A version of "Emergency" with screaming. Another song from the Summer Tic EP that was added to the 2025 AWKIF deluxe. It's named after one of their producers nicknamed "The Crab."12. Rewind
The riff in the instrumental part was stuck in my head for so long (and i thought it was from Emergency and there was a similar one in the original My Hero so i thought it was that) and then i finally listened to this and realized what it was and now I love it so much!!!!!
BACKGROUND: One of the deluxe tracks on Riot!.13. This Circle
not my fav but its still fire
BACKGROUND: Another song from the Summer Tic EP that was added to the 2025 AWKIF deluxe.14. Adore
Ah yes the emo songs about towns- "but i blame this town" though this is one of the less "emo" early paramore songs
BACKGROUND: not much info idk15. My Number One
BACKGROUND: idk much but I think this is sometimes called "My 1"?
16. Hallelujah (Demo)
so crunchy but... idk I love the Riot! sound
BACKGROUND: Apparently it's from awkif era, but was added to Riot!. This was apparently one of the original tracks sent to the record label, and the demo version was found on a compilation called Sick 2006.17. Sunday Bloody Sunday (U2 Cover)
BACKGROUND: supposedly on a UK "Misery Business" vinyl and for a long time a high quality version was not available digitally
Disc 2
1. I Caught Myself
ooo i love the long intro and the bass line!! and the last chorus is epic; the bass overall is 10/10 in this
BACKGROUND: Another song written for Twilight!2. Throwing Punches
chat why is it so glitchyyyyy
BACKGROUND: I'm pretty sure this is a song by Hayley Williams alone, so it's not really a Paramore song; I don't even think the instruments are played by Paramore (i could be wrong).3. Breathe (Until Tomorrow)
So it sounds like a voicemail but... i really love the piano, the only other piano in paramore I can think of is in Still Into You and the Emergency live intro
BACKGROUND: idk much, the band has mentioned it once in an interview but i dont think theres much information on it4. Swim in Silence
i lowkey love the intro
BACKGROUND: This one only exists in really low quality5. Stay Away
BACKGROUND: not much info
6. Temporary
I feel like the unreleased tracks on here are the ones with chord progressions that aren't like Paramore's usual sound. And I like these ones (though I like the normal sound too)
BACKGROUND: Riot! bonus track on some releases7. Teenagers
BACKGROUND: this is a hayley williams (not paramore) song, it was written for the Jennifer's Body soundtrack. Theres also an acoustic demo version which i am also listening to
8. O Star (Demo)
this is so fire, definitely more heavy than the final
BACKGROUND: might have been recorded in 2003? which would make it one of paramore's oldest songs along with "conspiracy".9. In The Mourning (Demo)
I love the talking at the beginning hheheh
BACKGROUND: this is a video posted in 2011 of hayley and taylor playing it before the singles club release, but idk why its on this albumsorry if this is a little rushed, especially to the end. right now is really busy for me and i just needed to stop this hanging over my head
